Neil Primrose Injured
Travis drummer Neal Primrose sustained multiple fractures of the
vertebrae after striking his head and being knocked unconscious
in a swimming pool following a festival appearance at Belfort in
France. Neil has undergone an operation and his improvements have
been better than anticipated. However, the neurosurgeons report
prohibits Neil from drumming until at least the end of September.
This means that the band have had to cancel their headlining performance
at V2002. Neil remarked, "I am feeling sad not to be able to
play at this years big show. I would like to send lots of
love and thanks to everyone for their recent messages of good will.
The good news is, that hopefully a full recovery can be achieved
over the next few months."
Everyone at Yamaha and Backbeat sends their wishes to Neil for
a full and speedy recovery. Backbeat will catch up with Neil for
a full interview as soon as he returns to full health.

The Corrs
All of The Corrs equipment was recently destroyed by a flood
in their lock up. This happened just before the band went into the
studio to record their fourth studio album. After a frantic couple
of weeks of organising new equipment, Caroline Corr and her band
are now back on track to complete the album for release before the
end of the year. For more details on The Corrs, including Caroline's
engagement news (sorry boys!), log on to the bands official

| Will Champion |
A Rush of Blood to the Head
Will Champion and his band Coldplay are releasing their brand new
album A Rush of Blood to the Head" on 26th August. The
band recorded the new album after touring for two years to promote
their first album Parachutes and Will explained on www.coldplay.com,
"We all felt it was time to get back into the studio. It was
only really the fact that we were playing new songs on the second
half of the tour that kept us going: the prospect of putting these
ideas down on tape was all that we were looking forward to."
And talking of the completion of the album, Will explained, "It
was a mixture of relief and panic. We could not and still cant
tell if its any good. All we know is that at some point all
of us thought that each song was the best wed ever written.
Whether people agree is a different matter."
Will used his Maple Custom Absolute to record the
album, sizes 24 x 16 Bass Drum, 12 x 10 Tom Tom and 16 x 16 Floor
Tom with various snare drums including a 5.5 Manu Katche Snare.

| Jon Lee 1968 - 2002 |
Feeder Continue
Feeder have vowed to carry on following the tragic suicide of their
drummer, Jon Lee, in January this year. Feeder guitarist and front
man Grant Nicholas said in a recent Kerrang interview, "were
carrying on because I think thats what Jon would have wanted."
Jon Lee will be missed by all of us at Yamaha and
Backbeat. I have fond memories of him - he was a fantastic drummer
and a very friendly and open human being. We interviewed Jon, along
with Aled Richards in the last edition of Backbeat. Jon always had
time for the drumming community and had great affection for it.
Mark Richardson has recorded the new Feeder album
Comfort in Sound which is to be released on the 21st
October this year. He will also perform with the band for the up
and coming Festival appearances including Reading, Leeds and Glasgow
on the Green, as well as a warm up show.
I hope you all will join me in wishing Grant and Taka
from Feeder and Mark Richardson all the best for whats going
to be a tough time in continuing.

Yamaha Stage Custom Receives Another Award
The phenomenally successful Stage Custom Kit from Yamaha was recently
voted Best Drum and Percussion product at the glittering
Music Industry Association awards.
Essentially a music trade event, the award is particularly
satisfying for Yamaha since those that voted for the Stage Custom
consist of retailers, wholesalers and even possible competitors!
The awards are based on votes by many of the countrys 1300
retail music shops and distributors, and as such are a true reflection
of both a products popularity, reliability, innovation and
value for money.
The Stage Custom comes in two styles; the Stage Custom
Standard and the Stage Custom Advantage, both of which feature Yamahas
YESS Tom Mounting System. For details on the Yamaha Stage Custom
drum range please call Yamahas brochure line on 01908 369269
